Marvel Studios broke the internet on Tuesday by revealing the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in a stunning fashion. Jackman joins Ryan Reynolds in a video ad filmed by Deadpool 3 Director Sean Levy, who was then shared to Reynolds’ social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon, set the internet on fire shortly thereafter. While almost the entire internet didn’t know about Jackman’s return until Tuesday, Deadpool creator Rob Layfield received an alert.
Speaking with ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis, Layfield said he received a tip-off from an “industrial friend” that Jackman had signed a deal to return to his role in Wolverine long before the announcement, and had officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the events of Deadpool 3 in 2024.
“These performers, they might need some time away, but the point is – the day after the Disney meeting, I had an industrial friend who was never wrong and very strong in the entertainment business. He called me and said, ‘Dude, Hugh’s signed.'” Wolverine is back. They do. Don’t doubt me. I have closed. It has been agreed. They did,” Layfield says. “I knew when they wanted to shoot all the production info and what kind of info and all that info looked right on target, but no one knows when they’re going to announce it.”
Marvel Studios had an open date of February 2024, which was pushed back to September earlier this month. At the time, many suspected that the Reynolds-led trilogy would fall on that date – and those people were right.
Are more X-Men on the way?
Until now, Deadpool 3 It is the only X-Men dated film on Marvel Studios’ release list. There were rumors that it was real X-Men Movie is running, but nothing has been officially announced outside Deadpool 3 And Disney + Animation X-Men 97 series. As it stands now, 2023 and 2024 are fully booked between Marvel movies and TV shows and 2025 is filling up quickly. At the current price, Marvel’s X-Men reboot likely won’t drop until 2026 at the earliest.
